  • We held a Parental Surgery for our Year 8 students and their parents to come in and speak to key staff about the expectations for Year 8 and what they are working towards. The evening was well attended and parents commented on how valuable they found this event.
  • We held a Drama Workshop on 6th October for our GCSE and prospective GCSE Drama students. They had a wonderful opportunity to be led in a 2 hour workshop with Kat Mary Productions Theatre Company, exploring a range of physical theatre styles as well as looking at a range of theatre practitioners in preparation for their GCSE exam.
  • Future Grads Programme Launch - selected students in Years 7-9 took part in Coventry Universities Future Grads programme launch. Future Grads is a programme launched by the widening participation and outreach teams at Coventry University and CU London in 2021, which aims to inspire young people to consider university. They will have the opportunity to visit our wider campuses based in Coventry, London and Scarborough, giving them an insight into the different types of university settings on offer and the subjects, lifestyle and opportunities that will be open to them.
  • On the 5th October we celebrated Black History Month at Abbs Cross with Movie Night in the hall showing the acclaimed film Hidden Figures. We raised over £200 for charity.

We visited the following places:

  •  Year 11 trip to Paris - 70 Year 11 pupils set of for four days in Paris with the aim of speaking as much French as possible. The trip included enjoying meals in typical French restaurants, visiting markets and a perfumery, cruising down the River Seine. The group also enjoyed a day at Disneyland Paris.
  •  Year 11 Ghana Trip - A life changing experience in Ghana. Ten Yr11 pupils set off for a volunteering experience in Ghana. They were involved in teaching the younger children and engaging in games and activities with them. They were also making bricks to be used to in new building projects.
  •  Yr11 Geography field trips to Walton on the Naze – The Year 11 Geography students took to the coastline of Great Britain to carry out a series of geographical investigations. These investigations will play an important part in their success when they sit the GCSE ‘Geographical Applications' paper in the summer. Once their geographical investigations were complete they were able to explore the cliffs and foreshore of the Naze.
  • Yr9 Trips to St. Andrews Church - As part of the Christian belief and practices unit of work being studied in RE Year 9 had the opportunity to visit St. Andrews, in the Parish Church of Hornchurch. A Church has stood at the site for over 800 years and St. Andrews is recognised as a grade one listed building- a building of outstanding distinction. Pupils enjoyed a tour of the Church, discussed its History and were shown some of the Christian practices that are experienced there.
  • Raising Participation Age Moving On event - Yr 10 & 11 students were offered the opportunity to attend the event which was held at Coventry University in Dagenham. Whilst there, students had the opportunity to meet and interact with a wide range of representatives from local colleges, sixth form providers and universities. Students also attended a brief presentation on the support that was on offer from the local authority for their transition and careers options.
  • The Apprenticeship and Skills Fair - A number of Yr 11 students attended the Havering Apprenticeship and Skills Fair at MyPlace, Harold Hill. The show was for students who may be considering a post-16 apprenticeship or looking for training and skill development opportunities with companies in the area as well as those considering a career in uniformed services.
