- Remembrance Day Year 8 drama performance –
To mark Remembrance Day Year 8 Drama students gave a performance of In Flanders Field by John McCrae to Years 11, 10 and 9 with Mr Coen.
- Havering Young Artist of the Year Exhibition –
We have a number of former Abbs Cross students whose work is being exhibited in this years Havering Young Artist of the Year competition: Max Aroni, Lexi Rossington-Trotman, Diana Krokhmalna, Mason Chapman and Ines Stuchfield. Their work includes mixed media sculpture, ceramics, collage and painting.
- Emotional Well-being workshops –
On 21st November we welcomed the Mind of the Student charity to our school to provide interactive workshops individually tailored to the emotional well-being of all years groups from year 7-11.
The presenters were extremely engaging and had the students’ full attention throughout. Topics covered included understanding triggers and support strategies for managing anxiety, well-being, mindfulness and exam stress. The students enjoyed taking part in the practical activities and said that they had found the sessions really useful!
- Winter Showcase –
Students performed dance, drama and music acts, with professional excellence and loved the whole experience.Students were well rehearsed and extremely enthusiastic throughout.
Clubs performed, including Yr7 Dance Club, Yr8&9 AX Dance Jnrs, Yr7 Drama Club, Yr8 Drama Club and Yr9 Drama Studies.There were some GCSE performances from GCSE Dance, Drama and Music, as well as some outstanding auditioned pieces from solo performers in KS3.
- GCSE Dance: Hip Hop Workshop -
Year 10 GCSE Dance took part in a Hip Hop Workshop, enhancing their knowledge on action, dynamic and spatial contact of the Hip Hop genre, linking to the anthology 'Emancipation of Expressionism'.Year 10 were joined by external practitioner Georgia Hussey, who developed the technical accuracy of the ensemble piece and extended their choreography. Year 10 are excited to record this piece on the stage, using lighting to support their choreographic intentions of 'hip hop as a tool for expression' and 'wanting to affect the audience's emotions'. Fantastic efforts Year 10.
We visited the following places:
- What University Trip –
On Friday 10th November, a number of Year 11 students attended the What University?What Career? show at London Olympia. The trip gave students the opportunity to speak to a range of further education and training providers about student life, choosing your career, working in a certain industry and access to support. CV clinics, careers advice lounge, US university zone, STEM hub and future skills workshops were all visited by students, providing a valuable insight into future opportunities available to them.
- History Trip: Jack the Ripper –
On Tuesday 14th November 108 Year 8 Pupils enjoyed a Jack the Ripper Tour in Whitechapel, London. The students enjoyed seeing the locations of where Jack the Ripper stalked and murdered the innocent people. One student said they enjoyed seeing the buildings, flats and alleyways where Jack the Ripper once walked.
- National Museum of Computing Trip –
A group of 72 Yr8 students were taken to The National Museum of Computing, where they experienced a great range of activities and hands-on experience on many real-life mathematical problems. Including problems dating back to the World Wars. We had a really positive response regarding the trip and were pleased that the trip was a great success.
- Business Studies Trip: Ernst & Young –
A group of aspiring Y10 students took part in an ‘insight day’ at Ersnt & Young in London Bridge. The event included students taking part in a finance project and gaining first-hand experience of working in a professional environment. The students were fully immersed in activities on offer and were really excited to hear how to pursue a career at EY. All the students commented on how inspired they felt and how they wanted to come back next year!
Abbs Cross took part in sporting fixtures:
