Raising Participation Age 'Moving On' Event

Back
October 21st 2024

On Tuesday 8th October Mrs Draper and Miss O'Sullivan escorted eight students to the YMCA in Romford in order to attend the Raising Participation Age Moving On event.

This event is designed to help young people in Year 11 gain valuable information about the options available to them after they leave school. Students understand that they now legally need to remain in education or training of some kind until the age of 18 years old. Whilst at the YMCA, students were treated to a specialist presentation from representatives of the Shaw Trust who were able to explain the different higher education and training pathways available to them post 16 years. They were then able to access a careers and higher education fair with staff and representatives from various colleges, sixth form providers and apprenticeships. There were stands for a number of local colleges as well as more specialist provisions.  Our students were able to have one to one conversations with the specialists as to which courses would be most suitable for them and gain advice on the applications and admission process. All of the students enjoyed the event and took full advantage of all of the freebies on offer.
