Havering Secondary Swimming Galas March 2022.
Back
The Havering Borough swimming gala took place on Tuesday and Wednesday the 22nd and 23rd of March again hosted by Abbs Cross Academy. It has been a long awaited competition in the borough due to its cancellation over the last two years due to Covid.
Hundreds of participants swam in the gala over the two days. Abbs Cross students helped to time keep, to be team captains and to be runners. This made the organisation extremely easy for the department. These students included leadership Academy students in Year 8 and 9 and our health ambassadors in Year 7 and 8. Our students were outstanding, organised, enthusiastic and excellent role models to others from our school and beyond. We had a 12 school entry into the competition on each night which was extremely encouraging.
The Year 8 and 9 competitions on the Tuesday saw an excellent performance from the Abbs Cross team with both Year 8 girls and boys and Year 9 girls and boys finishing in fourth position overall in the borough. On Wednesday the Year 7, 10 and 11 competition was also extremely well attended and competitive. Year 10 girls finished in 4th position and boys in 5th position. Year 7 girls and boys finished in a credible 6th position in their very first gala.
Many of our students gained the top six times and as a result were entered into the finals. There were particular notable performances from the following students:
Year 7
- Josh Solak
- Finlay Jackson
- Amy Gimbird - 2nd position.
Year 8
- Ethan Jackson
- Halia Watson
- Ralph Tynan-Cross
- Milana Novicka
Year 10/11
Donna Santos - Heelan- 2nd position
I would like to thank all our leadership Academy health ambassadors and GCSE students for all their assistance on the two nights because without them the events could not take place. The co-operation from all the staff from the borough schools was excellent and the competition was one of friendly rivalry that everyone thoroughly enjoyed.
