- Yr7 Netball Rally –
On 12th February 2024, the Yr7 girls netball team set out to Hornchurch to compete in the Yr 7 netball rally. The team was excited as they were greeted by friends from their primary schools.
The first match was against Sanders Draper School. As it was their first match it took a while to get together as a team, but when they did they lost only 2-1.
The next match was against Hall Mead. Their attackers on court played very well, but our team just couldn’t quite get the ball to the shooters. The other teams’ players decided to give player of the match to Cody for her amazing defence in goalkeeping.
They then played against Emerson Park. Although they lost 4-0, we stayed tight on our players and defended very well. The players’ player of the match was Jasmine.
The penultimate match was played against St Edwards. As a result of brilliant defence and clean passing they won 4–0!
Finally, the last match of the rally was against Coopers. They played their own game and didn’t let their heads drop, but ended up losing 11–1. Although they didn’t get the result they had hoped for, they know it is the taking part that counts and they can now build on this going into next year.
- Oliver Jnr – Performing Arts Production 2024
The Oliver Jnr production performed across 3 nights, Monday 12th, Tuesday 13th and Wednesday 14th February to huge audiences.Students said ‘this has been one of the best experiences and opportunities so far of Abbs Cross Academy and being part of such a fantastic cast has been something we will all remember’.
The production would not be possible without its terrific cast, who have worked tirelessly in rehearsals and learning lines at ridiculous speed!Every student has grown in confidence and skill; singing songs and learning crazy, complex choreography.
- Year 9 Sports Leadership Academy –
On the 15th February some of our Year 9 students were involved in the Leadership Academy in Havering. The Academy aims to develop the leadership and communication skills of students through assisting in the organisation and running of various sporting competitions in the Havering Borough throughout the year. Students helped assist at the Primary school’s athletics competitions at Harrow Lodge Sports centre using their leadership skills to motivate and encourage the primary school students.
We visited the following places:
- National Computing Museum trip – Bletchley Park
A group of 78 students were taken to The National Museum of Computing on the 8th of February 2024, where they experienced a great range of activities and hands-on experience on many real-life computer science problems. Including problems dating back to World War II and AI stimulations. We had a great positive response regarding the trip and were pleased that the trip was a great success.
- Mousetrap Theatre trip
On The 27th Feb we took 55 Year 9 students to watch the Mouse Trap in the West End. It was a project run by The National Literacy Trust, the project was called Young Mystery Writers. As part of the project we got to watch the Mouse Trap so we could start thinking about our own ideas for a mystery story.
