Year 11 Climbing Course In Brentwood

Back
September 12th 2024

On Thursday, 12th September, 11 GCSE PE students embarked on their first rock climbing course in Brentwood. Upon arrival, they learned to traverse a rock face, using a combination of holds and grips. While they showed promise, their technique was still developing.

The next challenge was knot tying, which some found particularly difficult. Staff at Thriftwood then guided the students through harness practice, ensuring they were prepared for the climbing ahead.

Once on the rock face, students began planning their routes. Some adapted quickly, while others needed a bit more encouragement. After several practice runs, the assessment phase began. Students were assigned appropriate routes, and many successfully reached the top, demonstrating their ability to plan and execute their climbs.

Final assessments were completed, and the students earned their grades for the GCSE practical. The day was filled with fun, and the students showed excellent progress from start to finish.
